We're creating more opportunities for adults living in East Gateshead, High Fell and Deckham to improve their health and wellbeing through sport.

We're delivering the Active Through Football programme together with Sport England, the Football Foundation and local partners including Gateshead Older People's Assembly and Edberts House.

Active Through Football sessions

Most sessions are completely free to join. 

Walking football

Walking football offers several health benefits, such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke while improving blood pressure. It also gives you the chance to become involved in something you really enjoy while making new friends. 

Where and when:

  • Gateshead International Stadium, 3-4pm on Mondays (in partnership with Gateshead Older People's Assembly - for participants aged 50+)
  • Gateshead International Stadium, 6-7pm on Thursdays (in partnership with Gateshead FC - all participants welcome)
  • Gateshead Older People's Assembly, Deckham, 10-11am and 11am-12 noon on Fridays (for participants aged 50+)

We also host a Men's 50+ Monthly Walking Football League 3-5pm at Gateshead International Stadium. 5 a side, maximum of 8 players per squad. Book your team's place now!

Soccercise fitness

Get involved in fun activities to help you keep fit and healthy, including soccercise, boxercise, multi-sports and more! A great way to support your wellbeing in a welcoming and relaxed environment.

Where and when:

  • Larkspur House, 10-11am on Tuesdays - all participants welcome
  • Pattinson House, 10-11am on Wednesdays - all participants welcome

Felling Active Mams

Get involved in fun activities to help you keep fit and healthy, including soccercise, boxercise, multi-sports and parent vs children games.

Where and when:

  • Felling Community Centre, 5-6pm on Thursdays

Girls and Goals - Lion Lasses

Feeling inspired by the Lionesses? These sessions are aimed at beginners to football or players who have not played for a while and are looking to get back into the game. Women of all abilities and fitness levels welcome!

Where and when:

  • The Elgin Centre, Deckham, 6-7pm on Tuesdays (aged 16+)

On the last Tuesday of every month, we also host the Lion Lasses Monthly 4x4 Super League, 6-8pm at the Elgin Centre. Maximum of 8 players per squad and a minimum of 4. Book your team's place now!

Women's HUB fitness sessions

Get involved in fun activities to help you keep fit and healthy, including soccercise, boxercise, multi-sports and more! A great way to support your well-being in a welcoming and relaxed environment.

Where and when:

  • Edberts House, 10-11am on Thursdays (for women aged 16+)

Active Through Families

For families in the local community. Adults and children are welcome to sign up and come along to take part in fun and friendly games that support both physical and mental health. Sessions are run by staff from the Hat-trick project and Gateshead FC Foundation. We will also have regular workshops that will support members such as cooking sessions, crafts and community awareness activities.

  • The Elgin Centre, Deckham, 5-6pm on Wednesdays 
  • Felling Muga, Stoneygate, 5pm-6pm on Fridays

Refugee football

Free and friendly football sessions for members of the refugee community, delivered by Gateshead FC coaches.

  • Gateshead International Stadium, 5-6pm on Tuesdays

Man V Fat

MAN v FAT Football is a unique network of weight loss football clubs across the UK, exclusively for men who have a BMI of 27.5 or over. Players can score goals both on the pitch and off the pitch, as weight loss progress directly impacts your team's performance.

Where and when:

  • Gateshead International Stadium, 7-8pm on Fridays

Social prescribing football
