Gateshead Council have been carefully monitoring and following the advice and guidance of Public Health England (PHE) in response to the evolving situation regarding Coronavirus (COVID 19).

It is vital we continue to maintain essential services for our residents, and in particular those most in need. This inevitably means non-essential services will be reduced to allow us to reallocate staff as required. We have therefore made the decision to close all our leisure centres, including Gateshead International Stadium from 10pm this evening, Wednesday 18 March.

We will suspend all GO Gateshead membership and swimming lessons Direct Debits with immediate effect to ensure no payments will be collected during the closure, however it is possible that it may be too late to prevent your next payment. Please be assured that any necessary refunds or credits to your account will be made and we will confirm the process at a later date.

Anybody who has a booking at any of our sites, we will endeavour to contact you within the next two days to either rearrange or cancel.

We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause, but the welfare of Gateshead's communities is our primary concern. If you have query regarding the content of this statement then please email go@gateshead.gov.uk, however please be mindful that we may not respond immediately.

These closures will be subject to review but will remain in place until PHE advise otherwise. Should the situation change we will update this statement and our social media channels.
