We're pleased to confirm that fitness classes at Heworth, Gateshead and Birtley Leisure Centres will restart from Monday 19 July.
As some GO Gateshead staff are still working to support our Covid-19 response, the number of classes we can run is limited. However, we've still got a wide range of classes on offer to suit all fitness levels and abilities.
Timetables are now available and pre-booking is essential. You can book up to seven days in advance or immediately before your class if spaces are available. Choose your next class at:
Blaydon Leisure Centre facilities remain unavailable as the site is currently being used as a Covid-19 vaccination centre.
Attending a class
To help keep everyone safe, we've made some changes to how classes are run. Whilst changing rooms and lockers are available, we recommend you arrive ready to work out and where possible, shower/change in your own home
Don't forget your face covering - you don't have to wear it during your class, but you'll need it while you're moving around the leisure centre. We're continuing to recommend wearing face coverings in our buildings after the legal requirement is lifted and we thank you for doing your bit to protect yourself, our staff and other customers.
We're not running any classes that involve multiple users touching the same equipment and any equipment you do use will be sanitised before and after each session.

As always, the health and wellbeing of our communities remains our first priority and as part of our phased approach to reopening, we will continue to review our leisure programmes alongside local infection rates. It's essential that Gateshead Council can continue to support residents through the pandemic and to enable this, it may be necessary for facilities to close again at short notice. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
